SRAM Fan

RL and I were out riding the other day and he was mentioning how one of his bike’s derailleur hanger was bent. He was saying that it needed to be adjusted. I mentioned to him that I had read somewhere about how most SRAM stuff is great because if one part of the component is broken you do not have to replace the whole component. This is unlike certain Shimano components that need to be replaced if one part of the whole component is broken.

So I racked my brain trying to remember where I had read about this before and once it came to me, I searched for it for you. I came across this little tidbit while reading a blog post from bike29.com’s owner George. George is a huge 29er fan who owns a bike store in Vermont. His online store, bike29.com, sells only 29er stuff! Here’s what he wrote:

This is what a big stick will do to a really expensive derailleur.

One of the reasons I have, and will always stand behind SRAM products, is the plain and simple fact that most of their stuff is rebuildable. And in this case, all I need is a replacement cage. If I had been running the “other” high end derailleur, I would be spending a lot more money to replace it.

You can find the rest of the post here. You have to scroll down to the date: Tuesday, September 12, 2006. In his post is a picture of the carnage. You may have to cover your eyes, because it is not pretty.

On a totally seperate note, George had a post from a couple of days ago that shows an Atomic Blue RIP9 frame… in the dark… the frame glows. It looks SWEET!!! Check that post out here. Scroll down to Tuesday, April 03, 2007.
