Mountain Bike Handling Skills Helped with Dirt Bikes and Quads
This weekend we headed out to Afton Canyon in the Mojave Desert with some friends that own a few dirt bikes, quads and stuff. We made the trek to the desert and found a camp ground in the middle of nowhere.
On Saturday the guys headed out on dirt bikes and quads. Since it has been years since I’ve been on any type or motorcycle, shifting the 6 speed quad I rode took some time to adjust. But once I got it down, I was blazing down the desert!
What was surprising was that all of the mountain bike handling skills I’ve learned in the past few years came into play when I was on these machines. On Sunday morning, a few of us guys rode out to explore more of the desert and I rode on a small 100cc dirt bike. On this machine I really had to work. I mean, if you’re on a quad, its pretty stable, suspension works really well, basically the thing is very forgiving. But on a dirt bike, I had to lean more, use my upper body, get off the seat a few other times and basically balance this thing through some rough areas. All in all I felt very confident on dirt bike, thanks to my mountain biking skills.
Priscilla also tried her hand in dealing with a quad. She did pretty well since she came back in one piece.
Here’s the guys getting ready to head out to look for some caves.
We even brought our dog Cowboy along with us….not on the quads and bikes, but on the trip.
Here’s Priscilla and our friend Erin getting ready to go on the Chick Ride.
We all had a blast that weekend. Man there’s just something cool about dirt bikes and quads…makes me want to get one or two…someday
