Got a new tool!
Ice Toolz gave me this bad boy to write about. Not sure the exact model name or number, but its basically a cable/housing cutter and crimper. It’s also strong enough to cut through spokes.
What’s interesting is, you see that hole underneath the pivot, you feed your cable there, and it chops it off. Then those two notches underneath crimps your cable caps/ends nice and tight, plus it looks professional too.
I’ll be putting this tool through the paces and see how well it does. Give me a few weeks and I’ll write up a full report.
Most brake cable cutters can also snip through spokes, but you shouldn’t do it…leave those cutting edges pristine for cables and cut spokes with something else (a dedicated spoke cutter or just another pair of these relegated for that purpose only).
When I worked at a shop, we actually cut through a thick cable with those cutters…it took a few minutes of hemming and hawing, but we cut it.
