I got up early this morning to meet our buddy Vince Rodarte at Turnbull Canyon or TBC as we often refer to it. Turns out that TBC used to be Vince’s backyard so he knows the trail very well.
Vince forgot his bike at work, so he had to borrow one of my bikes. Being the single speed aficionado that he is, the KHS Solo One was his choice of steed.
This time, we rode the correct trail from 7th to the water tank, it was so much easier. (I’m not rubbing it in Vince).
I had a great time riding this trail, even though it involved 4 miles of climbing, the descents are so worth it. Many thanks to Vince for joining me on this ride and for showing me the correct way, I look forward to the next ride.
That’s it? No more pics? Aw man, I feel like I got gipt on your report! I want to see Rodarte in his tights, Rodarte riding the single speed…basically Rodarte in action!

Well, all I can say is Moe was a pal by letting me borrow the Solo One… And remember to bring YOUR bike home from work. My size frame is usually medium, and on occasion Large. Moe’s small Solo One was *ahem* a bit cramped. My seat height/leg extension was hindered by the short post that came with the Solo One. Luckily, Moe had a longer post on the Alite Team, so we switched them. Unfortunately, that didn’t help me. It appears that no matter how long your seat post is, it doesn’t make up for not riding your bike. I GOT WORKED!! Keep in mind, my SS is a 26’er. My only experience on the 29’ers are on parking lot test spins and the Dirt Demo at Interbike. 29 inches are definitely a bit tougher to ride uphill than 26 inches. Compound that with too short of a seat post, one too many burgers and not enough time spent in the saddle…Sheesh! What used to be a nice little climb turned into a demoralizing and somewhat humbling lesson in humility. I enjoyed the ride anyways because..after all..I was out riding!
