Bigger tire trend

The trend of larger tires in mountain biking has been on the rise in recent years, and for good reason. Larger tires offer a number of benefits to riders, including increased traction, improved stability, and a smoother ride.

One of the main benefits of larger tires is the increased traction they provide. With a larger surface area in contact with the ground, the tires are able to grip the terrain more effectively, making it easier to ride over loose or rocky terrain. This is especially beneficial for riders who frequently tackle technical trails or ride in muddy or wet conditions.

In addition to increased traction, larger tires also offer improved stability. The wider stance of the tires helps to keep the bike more upright, reducing the chances of a rider getting knocked off balance by obstacles on the trail. This is especially beneficial for newer riders or those who may not have the same level of skill or experience as more experienced riders.

Another advantage of larger tires is that they can provide a smoother ride. The increased volume of air in the tires helps to absorb shocks and vibrations from the trail, making for a more comfortable and enjoyable ride. This is particularly beneficial for longer rides or for riders who are prone to arm pump, or other types of fatigue.

There are some downsides to larger tires, however. One of the main issues is that they can be heavier than smaller tires, which can make it more difficult to accelerate and can add additional strain to the rider’s legs during long climbs. In addition, the increased size of the tires can also make them more difficult to fit into some bike frames or on some suspension forks.

Another consideration is that Larger tires may have more rolling resistance which may affect the overall speed on the ride, this may not be a concern for some riders but it may be a concern for those who are looking for a faster ride.

Despite these downsides, the benefits of larger tires in mountain biking are hard to ignore. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a newcomer to the sport, larger tires can help to improve your overall riding experience. As the trend continues to grow, we expect to see more and more riders making the switch to larger tires.

It’s worth noting that the debate of bigger tire size is ongoing, and some argue that the appropriate size of tire depends on the type of riding and terrain. It’s recommend to test different options and find the size that suits your riding style and terrain.

Overall, the bigger tire trend in mountain biking is here to stay, and with good reason. With the increased traction, improved stability, and smoother ride that they provide, larger tires are becoming an increasingly popular choice among mountain bikers of all skill levels. If you haven’t already, consider making the switch to larger tires and experience the benefits for yourself.
