GETTING YOUR WIFE OR GIRLFRIEND INTO RIDING … CAN BE HUMBLING AND ENCOURAGING

A few years back Priscilla didn’t care too much for mountain biking. In fact she kinda just did it half heartedly. But with time she grew to love it. I do recall times when she would be so slow or have to walk the hills. But now she’s amazing on the trail. She keeps up and passes people all the time, especially me.

Not too long ago, Priscilla got really into riding. She started to become more confident on the bike, learning when to shift, how to climb and all that stuff that’s involved in it.

Don’t get me wrong at first I was ok with her being the slower rider and me being the one that would show her how to ride. But as we rode more and more trails together she started really improving. Spin classes is what put her over the edge. So at one point, I was totally struggling with riding. Not only was I out of shape but I couldn’t climb for squat, but here’s Priscilla always passing me and eventually having to wait up for me at the top if the hills. When she got better, it was a big shot to my ego.

I was happy for her, but I was also bummed out that I started to suck. That experience has been very humbling. Kinda like a Karate Master being beat up by his own student. So I spent weeks on end just moping and feeling sorry for myself until Moe got in my face and told me…Get over yourself, you should be glad she’s riding with you! He then went on to say that so many guys would give up a left nut just to have their wife or girl friend join them on the trails.

After swallowing my pride, I began to really appreciate Priscilla’s skill and ability to leave me and Moe behind on the climbs. It’s actually pretty encouraging to see her excel in her riding and to the point that she’ll want to go on the harder trails with miles and miles of climbing.

What’s kinda cool about this whole thing is, we’re actually able to spend more time together because we have finally found a sport that we both love. Some couples may have camping, dancing or tatoos, but for us, its mountain biking and I’m pretty darn lucky to have Priscilla ahead of me when we ride. Besides, its an nice view from where I’m at…wink wink 🙂

If you want to learn how to get your better half on the trails with you. Read this ARTICLE Priscilla wrote on what helped her get out there.
