Poseidon Bikes Norton – Did it miss the mark?

Poseidon Norton
UPDATE: The Norton is now selling for $999! This is not a bad deal compared to other bikes of this level.

I was looking forward to the release of Poseidon’s new bike: The Norton. Most of us start our MTB riding on hardtails so I wanted to see what Poseidon Bikes would come up with. The Norton’s geometry is what caught my eye; this bike has very slack geometry, almost DH like.

But where do I think it missed the mark? It sells for $1,299. I was hoping that this bike would be priced at Redwood level; basically below a grand. Unfortunately for this bike, there are similar offerings from Big Name brands costing less or the same as the Norton.

A perfect example is the Specialized Fuse 27.5. This bike is currently selling for $1,099 and it features the same drive train but the Specialized comes with a dropper post and an X-fusion fork.

I am still interested in riding the Norton, maybe when they hit the used market I can grab one for a good deal.
