Priscilla and I were at Costco yesterday and I noticed that they are selling a new bicycle brand called Northrock. It had decent specs and an ok price point, but this thing was a TANK! I’m guessing at least 30lbs…
I snapped a photo of it with my phone just to show you. The bike reminded me of the late Woodstock Bikes 505. It was closely spec’d the same.

Show CommentsI can’t wait to see some poor newbie on the trail with one of these rockin’ the fork backwards or the brake levers angled up.
I noticed these bikes also just this last weekend. I was surprised at the decent component level but never heard of the frame manufacturer. I would definately wonder about the durability of the frame.
The frame is probably made by one of any number of Chinese/Taiwanese companies that manufactures frames for myriad “brand names”. If you check out Maxway: http://www.maxway.com.tw/cgi-bin/productfn/pdt_category_lst.pl you will see a LOT of frames you recognize as coming from other brands. That’s because they churn out frames by the containerful.
I was at Costco again and I checked out the bikes one more time. Another thing I noticed. They have fricken kickstands on the bikes.
I bought the Northrock XC9 Bicycle. I must say this bike is excellent. The components are incredible for the price: Deore LX, Avid bb5, Shimano Crank, Marzocchi fork, ritchey stem and seat post, WTB rims, etc. As for the frame, the geometry is right on, after two weeks of drops and hard riding, this bike is flawless. The weight is well within average of bicyles twice the price. Five Stars!!
For $540.00 this bike would normally retail for around $975.00 – $1,200.00. At my Costco store they sold out.

I might buy this bike from someone for 300 bucks. I raced years ago on a Kona with a Marzochii fork and loved it. I cant afford much but want to get back on the trails. not race. Does anyone think this would be a good buy? It sounds like a good bike but I want somebody to re assure me.. should I buy it??!!!!

I bought the Northrock CL5 womens cruiser at Costco identical to the one on northrockbikes.com. After returning another name brand bike which was noisey and not smooth, I love this bike! It is smooth, well made, and functions well. My husband bought the men’s Northrock crusier at Costco and we are both very pleased. We do mostly leisure trail riding on smooth services and streets.
I purchased the Northrock SC7 today at Costco after comparing bikes at four other places. At $259 this was a value that I could not pass on after seeing similar bikes for twice as much. Who cares about the name on the frame, it’s the components that matter. This bike has some enviable features such as quick release, shimano gears and promax brakes (same as trek). I got on the bike today (fully assembled already, BTW) and was thoroughly impressed by the smooth ride, 21 gears and lightweight aluminum frame. Anyone looking for a fantastic value should at the very least consider this bike at Costco. I’ve already recommended to a family member and they are going to get the women’s version tomorrow.
I bought a Northrock SC7 this past Friday at Costco… I had been in the market for a more street-oriented bike to compliment my trail bike. I liked the components, height, look of the SC7 (and price) of the SC7 so gave it a try. I was convinced enough after my 1st ride that (even though the left pedal came off after about 4 miles – some idiot at Costco didn’t put it on correctly, I’m sure), I exchaned it for a new one…. As several have said before, I must reiterate: Make sure you go over the assembled parts well, Costco is not a bike shop and the folks putting these together (final assembly) are novices. All the bikes in the store have at least one issue – all handle-grips rotated 180 degrees, brakes not adjusted correctly, sctatches on frame, and – mine – pedals not properly torqued-down. But I do like this bike for this price!
I bought my wife the CL5 last moth, she loves it! I was looking for a quality bicycle, light, with good parts. After shopping around I came upon Northrock. Great bikes! My wife has over 100 miles and found the new fountain of youth. The paint job look is stunningly beautiful (makes her look 5 years younger). We went back to Costco to buy the SC7 for myself, they were all sold out. After asking the manager he told me he will search around, if you see one grab it or let me know!
