Leverage is your friend!
The other day I was working on a bike that needed to have the crank set removed. After taking off the arms, I needed to take off the cups. Problem was, it was on there tight!
The cup was in there good! I tried both sides to see if I can break it loose from it’s grip, it just wouldn’t budge. So I grabbed the lever from my hydraulic floor jack and slipped it over the 8mm allen to extend my leverage and with one try, the bottom bracket came loose!
Yuup, always good to have a cheater bar around. Especially for those square taper BBs… well, that’s pretty much the only time you need one.
pro tip
“before you start cranking away with a cheater bar… make sure you’re turning it the right direction”
Great Tip Bike Mike. I certainly turning it the correct way, In fact sometimes, I’ll tighten it first, then loosen just to make sure it will break free.
