Climbing a Hill after washing out

How To's/Tech Tips Main Mountain Biking

There are many times when I’m climbing a steep hill and for some reason I hit a soft spot or a rock that causes me to lose my mojo and eventually needing to stop. What’s frustrating about this is that sometimes getting back on your bike to climb the hill again can be tricky. Heck sometimes it maybe so steep that once you pedal you have to put your foot down again. So here’s a few things to remember if this happens to you.

First thing to do is place your power leg on the 10o’clock position. If your power leg is the right side, then place it on the 2o’clock position.

Lean forward

Then at the same time, push the pedal with your power leg and kick yourself off with the foot that’s on the ground. This should give you enough movement to get your other foot on the pedal.

Viola! You’re back on the bike and riding!
