I’m relatively short…in height. I stand at a towering 5′7″ and I weigh about 190lbs. I can’t wear lycra or club/sport fitted jerseys because it looks terrible on me. My gut is hanging out no matter how much I try to suck it in.
Well the lycra/spandex stuff I don’t mind so much because I have beautiful legs from all the biking I do. But I’d rather wear a pair of baggies just because spandex doesn’t complilment a short stocky rider.
So here’s my letter to the bicycling clothing companies out there…
Dear Mr. Tight Clothing Maker,
My name is RL Policar, a short and slightly overweight bicyclist. I can’t make myself wear the clothes you make because they make me look fatter than I already am. As cool as your jersey looks with all its logos, colors and moisture wicking properties…I can’t wear it.
Here’s why I can’t wear it, for starters, its way too expensive and its way too small. I know that the pro riders out there have bodies like pre-pubescent teenage boys and I’m guessing you’ve used them as your model when creating your jerseys. But for guys like me with a gut, those jerseys just make us look like sausage links or a fat seal.
Oh and another thing, I’m not sure how other husky guys are, but I have a hard time reaching the pockets behind my shirt! How about putting one some on the front of the shirt? You know, pockets to put our Gu’s, bananas and beef jerky in.
Then we move on to the shorts and knickers you make. Being a shorter fella, knickers end up looking like high water pants on me. Sure when you have a model that is 6 feet tall they look great, but when I wear them I look like I’m getting ready to flee the village due to a flood. Then the shorts you make look like knickers on me! Thought that wouldn’t be a problem, but I really like how those knickers look, but remember how they were too long for me?
Perhaps you guys can come up with another sizing category based on height. You know, a sizing system where the customer can choose from “Short, Really Short, or Midget.�
Anyhow, I’m not here to bust your balls, but it would be great if a shorter, fatter bicyclist like me could look some what close to what your catalog is showing.
